Me Made May 18 – Week 1

I spontaneously decided to take part in Me Made May again this year. But unofficially, I didn’t sign up and I won’t share any of my pictures on Instagram, as I don’t have an account and am really happy with that decision. I will however, share my daily pictures in the sidebar of this blog and I’m planning on posting overviews with more information every week here on the blog as well. Continue reading

Inca Cardigan

Long time no see! Maybe you have noticed, I didn’t translate a few of my latest posts. You see, I do that manually and I simply couldn’t spare the time. However, as you can see, I found some time to translate this post. It is about the latest addition to my cardigans and its story started back in October when I was visiting Marvin, who spent three month at NCSU for his research. I visited him and brought back a lot of stuff, like fabrics and sewing patterns. And I also bought some local fiber.

Electric Yarn Winding Station: Prototype

I built an electric yarn winding station. Well, I assembled it, to be correct. When I bought the yarn for my wonder woman wrap in Cary, NC, USA the electric yarn winding station used in the store left a desire to someday own one of my own ;) The yarn winding station was great, It was winding all of the costumers yarn while the shop owner was still able to do other things. Now that I have seen this, I wonder why not every yarn store has one. And I wondered what kept me from having one too ;)  But before I start telling you about my new winding station it makes sense to clarify what a yarn winding station is and what it is used for. Butterick B6484

Here comes another dress made from a pattern that I ordered directly at Butterick, while Marvin was staying in the US for three months. I ordered the pattern 5 days before he was leaving and they arrived the evening before he left. You can read all about the dramatic story here if you wish ;) Soo this is the second pattern I made, it’s another Gretchen Hirsch and Butterick pattern and its name is B4684. I bought this pattern because I had seen it made from a border print by one of the participants of last year’s Outfit Along and it looked stunning. Continue reading

Mittens and gloves

I’m much taller than average. Not only does that mean that I have problems finding rtw pants and tops that fit. I have always had problems with tights with too short legs, too short bra straps and gloves that had too short fingers and didn’t fully cover my wrists. When I remember all those times I involuntarily wore cropped looking tops and rolled up sleeves or menswear or garments that I bought 4 sizes too big, using the additional width as additional length, I’m really really glad that I started sewing and liked it! Mira II

Last weekend I finally sewed a dress that I initially planned to wear last spring ;) I ordered this super cute fabric at Snaply, a German onlineshop known for their innovative sewing gadgets. Apparently they also sell beautiful knit fabric. I ordered two meters of this springy bird fabric and paid 14.30 €/m. Sadly the darker colors bled out into the light beige during the pre-washing procedure. I tried to cut around the baddest stains, but I didn’t manage to avoid them all. Continue reading

Tosti Winter Jacket

I made a real winter jacket! Yes, a real one this time, it even has a hood ;) I finished it at the end of last year, but it has been scarily warm here the last month and I wanted to test the jacket under real conditions so that some time passed between making this jacket and showing it here. As I’m really proud of how it turned out and it took a lot of my time and nerves and all the materials where so super expensive I felt that I should take my time with this post :) Continue reading

Processing Alpaca Fiber

In my latest New Year’s post you have already seen him, Zapato Blanco, the alpaca by my side ;) In 2016 my parents in law gave me a gift certificate for an alpaca hike for my birthday. 30 km or so from here Christian and his family keep a bunch of 16 alpacas at the Alpacalodge and they offer activities with the alpacas. In October of 2016 Marvin and I went trekking with the alpacas for the first time. The weather was great and so were the alpacas! Continue reading

Flannel Belladone Dress

When I visited Marvin in America in autumn of last year I bought some pieces of fabric, for my collection ;) I made a dress from the first piece and – SURPRISE_ I amde a dress from the second piece as well ;) To my defense: I didn’t plan that, it just happened! I Bought the fabric at Joann’s in Raleigh. This was the only fabric store I went to, when I was in the US. Because obviously Walmart does not count! Continue reading

Northern Black Forest Cardigan

I’ll start this year with a cardigan I made for Marvin. Its story starts in September of last year, when I bought the fiber. I visited the Straubenhardter Wollfest, a wool festival in Straubenhardt. Straubenhardt isn’t far from where I live, however it belongs to the black forest and you can see that! This was my first wool festival ever and I went there because some of the gals of my spinning group helped organizing it. That meant that there was a whole room reserved for my spinning group. Each of us was invited to bring her wheel along. The festival visitors in exchange where allowed to stare at us as log as they wanted and ask questions. So strictly speaking I wasn’t a visitor I was a contributor to the wool festival ;) Continue reading
