I’ll start this year with a cardigan I made for Marvin. Its story starts in September of last year, when I bought the fiber. I visited the Straubenhardter Wollfest, a wool festival in Straubenhardt. Straubenhardt isn’t far from where I live, however it belongs to the black forest and you can see that! This was my first wool festival ever and I went there because some of the gals of my spinning group helped organizing it. That meant that there was a whole room reserved for my spinning group. Each of us was invited to bring her wheel along. The festival visitors in exchange where allowed to stare at us as log as they wanted and ask questions. So strictly speaking I wasn’t a visitor I was a contributor to the wool festival ;) Continue reading

Lace Top from handspun linen yarn
A year ago I knitted a summer top for the first time. What a revelation! Since then I have been on the look out for an affordable 100 % linen yarn. And I haven’t found it yet. For a time I was eyeballing with Quince and Co. Sparrow. Though the yarn is produced in Italy it is sold from the US, which makes it very expensive here in Europe. And what nonsense to transport a yarn from Europe to the US and than back to Europe, what an unnecessary waste of energy. Continue reading
Suri Cardigan
I tried to get my hands on some local Alpaca fibre, but my favorite dealer (we often go there and take a walk with the alpacas) didn’t have any left when I started spinning and he referred my to another alpaca farm not far from here. I phoned with the lovely owner and she sent me 900g of already washed and carded fibre of her Suri Alpacas. And this is were the story of Marvin’s new Alpaca Cardigan starts. Continue reading
Coombe
I just finished this dress in time to show it off before it gets too warm here. I wasn’t sure if I was gonna make it, it took me all winter and most of autumn to finish this thing. I don’t think anything ever took me so long so complete. Teh dress started with a big 1 kg ball of fiber that Marvin gave me for my birthday. The fiber is from Australian Merino Sheep and very fine and soft. It was combed into roving and consisted of 3 different shades of red, you can find a product picture of it here. Sadly I didn’t take a picture of the huge roving ball I had, looked ridiculous, and I remember thinking that I would never finish spinning it. Continue reading
Woolmakers Bliss, A Review
I already showed the first outcomes of my new hobby: spinning! I’m still on it and enjoying it a lot. It is so nice to have even more possibilities and be more independent from companies that provide materials. At the moment I’m collecting supplies to spin yarn from local sheep in spring, when the fleecing season begins. So I ordered a drum carder. And I realized that I haven’t written about the spinning wheel I bought in August/September. So here it comes! Continue reading
Dragonflies Jumper
Okay, maybe some of you remember that I started spinning? Well, I just finished my first handspun sweater. I dyed, spun and knitted this sweater all by myself and I am enormously proud :) And that is the reason why I am showing you another sweater today ;) I couldn’t help it, I just had to show the pictures to the world :) Continue reading
One can never have enough Hobbies!
This post begins, as many before it, with a story. Once at a time Marvin mentioned that it might be interesting to spin yarn. Just think of how great it would be if Marvin made yarn that I could use to knit me another sweater?! ;) So almost instantly after he mention it I bought a drop spindle with a top whirl (as it later turned out ;)) and some wool for practicing. Continue reading
