Dragonflies Jumper

img_20161119_154554Okay, maybe some of you remember that I started spinning? Well, I just finished my first handspun sweater. I dyed, spun and knitted this sweater all by myself and I am enormously proud :) And that is the reason why I am showing you another sweater today ;) I couldn’t help it, I just had to show the pictures to the world :) Continue reading

img_20161106_135717It is time of the years again when I sew zipped hoodies. That is because wearing hoodies this time of the year is so practical. You can wear them shut, you can wear them open and you can easily take them off. This is crucial for this kind of weather right now. Super cold when the sun is away, a lot warmer when it shows up. And insanely warm inside, especially on trains. I don’t know why it is always so hot inside of trains. I’m only on it for like 10 minutes and I have to take my jacket off each time. anyway, moving on. Another great reason for me to sew a hoodie was that I needed my new serger for that ;) And that I had bought this fabric without having any idea what to do with it. Continue reading

img_20161106_135239Shortly after showing off my selfish Icelandic sweater I am now ready to show you exhibit no 2: the unselfish Icelandic sweater! Before we went to Iceland Marvin thought about buying a real Icelandic sweater directly there. When he saw the reasonable but high prices for the sweaters knowing that I would love to knit him one myself he decided that that was what he wanted ;) I think it is a waste of suitcase space packing a bought jacket instead of some more skeins of wool, so naturally I was content with his decision. Gillian Wrap Dress

img_8380Yes, another dress! Finally another dress ;) And I tell you in advance: there’s not that much to talk about this one. It is my third attempt on the Gillian Wrap Dress in size 34. I almost sewed this dress right out of the envelope (well, out of the printer..), I only had to do my usual length alterations and it fit me! There are some variations to this pattern. However I have only made the dress so far. Skirt-only and wrap-top-only variations are included in the pattern and there are special instructions for them. I wanted to try both variation for a long time. But you know.. when I have to decide between a dress and anything else, I always end up sewing the dress ;) Continue reading

img_20161022_151215On to the next item of my knitted sweaters stack :) Back in May we visited Iceland were everything is expensive except for wool. I don’t know how the Icelandic people did it but they imported sheep a while back, the sheep adapted to the climate and now they are know as Icelandic sheep. Their wool is very special. And it is very itchy, oh so itchy, but also very durable and warm. Continue reading

Jean Jacket Burda 7018

img_20161016_170933A little over a year ago I sewed my first denim jacket. Oh how proud I was! I since wore the jacket often and it is one of my favorite pieces (and again, what isn’t?). But I always had the intention of making another, improved version of this jacket. I wanted pockets, a better fabric and most important: real jean jacket wrist cuffs. The first version was more of a trial. When I was looking for a pattern I didn’t find anything that wasn’t Burda. And with Burda I always need a trial run, especially when I’m sewing something a little more sophisticated like a jean jacket ;) Continue reading

Alecia Beth Cardigan

img_20161010_184129Today I start pulling sweaters from my stack of handknit sweaters I told you about last week ;) I’ll start with the oldest one. I knitted it in February but as there was a lot going on my life the first half of the year I wasn’t able to blog about it before it got too warm. Luckily it got colder again and so the cardigan already got a lot of wears. It definitely fills a gap in my wardrobe (as if there really was one… ;)) because it is red and warm and cropped. I’m not sure what was first the pattern or the yarn. Continue reading

Selfish Shorts

img_20160920_113216I’m back :) We spent a splendid time in Italy! Weather was great too. People told us we got very lucky with the weather. For our last 5 holidays or so people have told u that, even in Iceland. I started not to feel lucky about the ‘good’ weather but rather anxious. However, global warming is a great excuse to sew more shorts. And as Marvin got 2 new pairs I was eager to treat myself to two new pairs too ;) Continue reading

One can never have enough Hobbies!

handgesponnen_merino_5This post begins, as many before it, with a story. Once at a time Marvin mentioned that it might be interesting to spin yarn. Just think of how great it would be if Marvin made yarn that I could use to knit me another sweater?! ;) So almost instantly after he mention it I bought a drop spindle with a top whirl (as it later turned out ;)) and some wool for practicing. Continue reading

Colette Rue

colette_rue_ver1_full_2I sewed another dress ;) And I used a brand new pattern. And here’s the story behind that: a while ago the people behind the sewing pattern label Colette were looking for bloggers who wanted to test their new pattern pre release and give them feedback. I write ‘test’ but the pattern was already ready and tested and everything it was more about trying it out, seeing if you like it and if you like the fit. Continue reading
