Laurel Dress

There are some projects that I spend ages on, when in fact they shouldn’t‘t take me that long. Most often these are projects that I‘m not very passionate about right from the beginning. Today I’ll be showing you a dress where the passionlessness started with the pattern. Colette‘s Laurel Dress. Definitely not my usual style. Because,well: the bodice isn’t fitted and the skirt isn’t flared ;) But I found myself drawn to this pattern every other time. I have tried this pattern before once. It is time of the years again when I sew zipped hoodies. That is because wearing hoodies this time of the year is so practical. You can wear them shut, you can wear them open and you can easily take them off. This is crucial for this kind of weather right now. Super cold when the sun is away, a lot warmer when it shows up. And insanely warm inside, especially on trains. I don’t know why it is always so hot inside of trains. I’m only on it for like 10 minutes and I have to take my jacket off each time. anyway, moving on. Gillian Wrap Dress

Yes, another dress! Finally another dress ;) And I tell you in advance: there’s not that much to talk about this one. It is my third attempt on the Gillian Wrap Dress in size 34. I almost sewed this dress right out of the envelope (well, out of the printer..), I only had to do my usual length alterations and it fit me! There are some variations to this pattern. However I have only made the dress so far. Skirt-only and wrap-top-only variations are included in the pattern and there are special instructions for them. I wanted to try both variation for a long time. But you know.. when I have to decide between a dress and anything else, I always end up sewing the dress ;) Continue reading →

Jean Jacket Burda 7018

A little over a year ago I sewed my first denim jacket. Oh how proud I was! I since wore the jacket often and it is one of my favorite pieces (and again, what isn’t?). But I always had the intention of making another, improved version of this jacket. I wanted pockets, a better fabric and most important: real jean jacket wrist cuffs. The first version was more of a trial. When I was looking for a pattern I didn’t find anything that wasn’t Burda. Selfish Shorts

I’m back :) We spent a splendid time in Italy! Weather was great too. People told us we got very lucky with the weather. For our last 5 holidays or so people have told u that, even in Iceland. I started not to feel lucky about the ‘good’ weather but rather anxious. However, global warming is a great excuse to sew more shorts. Unselfish Shorts

Sewing for Marvin is relatively easy: the only garments he needs are shorts and t-shirts. He doesn’t wear much else the whole summer. While I can chose between wearing skirts, dresses or pants the only thing Marvin can wear in this climate we have here are shorts. When we lived a little farther north Marvin didn’t wear shorts that often, he says he still doesn’t like wearing them to work, but it’s not like he has a choice now ;) Continue reading →

Svaneke

You’re looking at the preview picture thing ‘A dress? Again? Didn’t she say she had enough dresses?!’. Weeell, the joke is on you! This isn’t a dress it’s a shirt and a skirt and it looks like a dress, hahahaha. But technically it isn’t. Both pieces even came as one pattern. Svaneke it is called and it is one of many vintage patterns by HowToDoFashion. Nanna wrote me and kindly offered me to pick one of the patterns to test it. A fitting bra (or three)

I still cannot believe it and I’m really trying to hold back a little but I think, I really think I sewed myself a fitting and comfortable bra! my first! I had some fitting issues over the last 1,5 years, I solved them all but the one problem I had with underwired bras remained: the underwires. It seemed like everything was fine in theory, the band was tight enough, the bridge laid flat but the underwires gaped underneath my breasts. That led to high pressure where th underwires pressed against my breastbone and underneath my arms. Continue reading →
